BENJAMIN RAMM

What I am working on at the moment?

I'm editor-at-large of openDemocracy, where I write about topics as diverse as the 'war on drugs' and the post-Brexit uncertainty. I also present documentaries for BBC Radio 4 and the BBC World Service, and write reviews for various publications, including the Guardian.

Why I wanted to join the Participatory City Global Advisory?

The Participatory City project is a very welcome development. Reimagining our urban spaces, and our interactions as citizens, is vital if we are to fulfil the promise of democracy, which must start from the bottom-up. Confident and welcoming communities are the key to nurturing imaginative and generous citizens, who thrive in working together to create a rich civic life. I hope to be able to advise on the democratic aspects of the project, and suggest inspirations from a global perspective.

A little bit about my background

Previously, I edited The Liberal magazine, and am the author of Citizens: A Manifesto. I'm based in London, but travel frequently for reporting and exploring.
