What I am working on at the moment
I chair the Early Action Task Force and am also working on tackling social isolation. My 2 principal interests are in building a society that prevents problems from occurring rather than one that copes with the consequences and in building human connections.
Why I wanted to join the Participatory City Global Advisory
think making it easier and more attractive for people to come together is always important, that’s why I am a community worker. Now in times of financial austerity and post Brexit division it is more important than ever. I want to join the board because I think I will learn from this exciting new model and hopefully have some useful experience to contribute.
A little bit about my background
I am a community worker and writer in east London. I co-founded Community Links, the Children’s Discovery Centre and Shift, the behavior change agency. I also helped to create the Social Impact Bond, chaired the first SIB funded project and am a founding director of Social Finance. My most recent book Changing London - featured crowd sourced ideas for the London mayor. Several are now prominent in the new mayoral programme and very relevant to Participatory City. These include commitments to beat loneliness, to reduce suicide by 50%, to use planning powers to tackle social isolation and to appoint a deputy mayor for social integration.
