What I am working on at the moment

I’m currently Director of the Social Impact Lab, based at the University of Southampton but operating globally. Our mission is to cultivate world -class talent for social impact through challenge-based education.  I am also Co-Director of the UK-India Social Entrepreneurship Education Network, which promotes and facilitates collaboration between UK and India in the field of social entrepreneurship education.

Why I wanted to join the Participatory City Global Advisory

Participatory City speaks to the growing recognition that our neighbourhoods and, by extension, our cities, are under-utilised resources which should be interactive spaces for play, sustainable consumption and civic connection.

It speaks to a particular passion of mine – creating an inclusive culture of participation. Too often we’ve elevated particular individuals into saviours, investing all our faith in their abilities and divesting ourselves of the responsibility and agency to craft society in our collective image. I hope that I can help to imagine how we can all contribute to remaking local spaces.

A little bit about my background

I like to think of myself as a serial high education innovator. I have launched the UK’s first all-campus social entrepreneurship module, and its first postgraduate pathway. I have also directed pioneering extra-curricular programmes: the Spark India social enterprise camp and the International Social Innovation Challenge Series. I am passionate about retooling higher education for the twenty-first century and integrating universities more fully into the social impact ecosystem.
