ANTHONY PAINTER

What I am working on at the moment?

My main areas of personal focus include: (i) Insecurity and Basic Income (ii) ‘Cities of Learning’, ie places as a learning platform (iii) Technology, society and institutional reform (iv) Public service leadership and innovation.

Why I wanted to join the Participatory City Global Advisory?

Participatory City is a practical project grounded in insights that promise to convert the latest ideas and hypotheses about places/community/participation and well-being into demonstrated reality.

A little bit about my background

My recent research and policy work has centred on the interface of place and learning, civic change, innovation and Basic Income, and citizen empowerment supported by major public services. I lead a Department that combines action-oriented projects in education, public services, community business, and economic democracy with research across economy, education, public services and communities. Outside of work, I have been a Governor for twelve years of a major inner city London community college (Vice Chair for eight of those years), and a Trustee of a charity whose mission is community cohesion.
